The world’s most iconic band of all time, taps into the Off the Wall spirit in a collaboration for the ages. Vans and The Beatles join forces in March 2014 to release a collection of footwear showcasing the unique artwork from the legendary Yellow Submarine album and film.
Released in 1968, Yellow Submarine represents the perfect blend of good music and unique artwork highlighted on four original Vans Classics. This collaboration is the first of its kind and delivers an offering of artwork and colors taken directly from the album cover.
Yellow Submarine, based on a song by John Lennon and Paul McCartney, is a fantastic tale brimming with peace, love, and hope, propelled by Beatles songs, including “Eleanor Rigby,” “When I’m Sixty-Four,” “Lucy in the Sky With Diamonds,” “All You Need Is Love,” and “It’s All Too Much.” When the film debuted, it was instantly recognized as a landmark achievement, revolutionizing a genre by integrating the freestyle approach of the era with innovative animation techniques.
The first-ever Beatles footwear capsule is featured on Vans Classics dating back to 1966. The original high-top silhouette, the Sk8-Hi Reissue, kicks off the assortment with alternating artwork on each quarter panel hosting individual portraits of the Fab Four from the film. The Classic Slip-On presents a fun take on the Sea of Monsters by showcasing a continued underwater scene across each pair of Slip-On’s when viewed from left to right. The Era and Authentic round out the offering by presenting a scenic garden with the band and an all-over “All You Need is Love” print throughout their uppers. Yellow Submarine imagery puts the finishing touches on the quartet, as it marks every footbed in the range, appears on the woven labels of each laced shoe and adorns the custom collector’s box made for this special project.
This year, marks the 50th anniversary of The Beatles groundbreaking first appearance on The Ed Sullivan Show. To commemorate the occasion, The Recording Academy, AEG Ehrlich Ventures and CBS will present “The Night That Changed America: A GRAMMY Salute To The Beatles” which will feature today’s top artists covering songs performed by the Fab Four. The show will air on February 9, 2014 exactly 50 years to the day, date and time of the original event.
The Beatles Yellow Submarine by Vans is an exciting collection that will highlight the group’s global influence on music, art and pop culture.
The footwear capsule drops March 17, 2014 in Europe, but visit vans.com/thebeatlesyellowsubmarine for news and updates on the collection’s release.
