Why did you start collecting sneakers?
I’ve always had a “collector” mentality towards a lot of things. Shoes are expensive though and take up a lot of room and so its not something that was feasible most of my life. I come from Kentucky which is not a place you would find a lot of people that were heavy into shoes back in the 80s and 90s when I was growing up, at least not in regards to having more than one or two pairs. Its getting a lot bigger and more widely accepted everywhere nowadays. I think that collector mentality just became more justified in my mind when I got to a point where I could afford to grab a pair here and there that I liked. When I thought about it I realized it’s better than collecting a lot of other things because what can you do with a baseball card besides look at it? Collecting sneakers is not only a cool collection to observe as a form of art, its also something you can use everyday and enjoy all through your day. In that regard it’s sort of like collecting vehicles, which is definitely also something I plan to do in this life.

First sneaker you can remember being your favorite?
First thing I can remember getting really excited about was my first pair of Jordans, Maroon VI’s, for Christmas when I was about 10. As most people that are into J’s know, this is also one of the only colorways that has not been retroed since the original release. I’m really excited about them possibly coming back next year, and I never really get excited about a Jordan release. Hopefully we see Nike Air on the back but either way, those will be mine if we see them resurface.

Which sneaker do you think is overhyped?
The Air Yeezy in both models is definitely what comes to mind when I hear the word hype. I remember seeing videos when the Yeezy 2 release was literally a couple months away of people trying to set up lines to camp across the street from stores they knew would have them in stock. I know theres a difference between hyped and overhyped but in my opinion this shoe is definitely overhyped. They’re cool and I’d love to have a pair but 4x retail is uncalled for no matter what it is especially when you’re talking about the same day the shoe came out, and thats really the low low end of the resell price, and the shoe has a higher retail price point by almost anything else Nike makes. I could continue this rant but I won’t convince those that disagree and those that agree don’t need convincing. It’s all love though!
