Sneakerness asked the creatives of the Posters 3 questions.
Here you go with Kwills!
When did Art become a part of your life, how have you been influenced?
I have been drawing since the age of 5 and i was always fascinated reading comics and watching cartoons.
So those are obviously the first influences, later in life between age 13 – 15 i started skateboarding and listening to hiphop which broadened my influences due to skateboard graphics and graffiti.
Currently influences can come from anywhere, from sneakers to museum visits, from tattoos to the simplest things like a pen.
If an object or situation has the tiniest potential, it can spark the greatest ideas.
Your relation to sneakers?
My interest in sneakers started early but around 1996 that’s when the whole collecting began.
I have bought a lot of shoes since that can have the coolest detail or design element.
So in my art i use that detail or design element to work around that.
I just love the ideas the designers come up with and to see those designs translated into a shoe.
What’s the meaning behind your illustration/picture/painting?
The brief for this poster was “sneakers” and this drawing sums up everything i associate with sneakers and particularly Berlin.
This illustration came about after i visited Berlin with my wife when i did the SneakerFreaker x Overkill x Kwills show in 2012.
As many sneaker aficionados know this is cross-section of Eberswalder Strasse and Schönhauser Allee where you will find one of the coolest shops around the corner.
The thought is you have to look for certain shops and shoe-releases and that is how this image is built up too.
On the left side i incorporated parts of the Air Huarache shoe because those elements fit perfectly into the architecture.
You have to look for it maybe but when you see it you know.
