Sneakerness asked some sneakerheads and influencers from all over the world 3 questions.
Here you go with Ascoyne from Germany
Why did you started collecting sneakers?
First of all, I don’t like being called a collector. There are so many people who take sneakers more serious than I do… All shoes I own were bought just because there was something about them I really liked somehow – I never bought a pair because it’s a collector’s “must-have”. And I wear all of them, I’m not sure if real collectors would do that.
First sneaker you can remember being your favorite?
The first sneaker I totally fell in love with was the adidas Marathon TR in a grey-black colorway with pink details. A friend of mine had them when I was about 11 years old and I begged my mom until she bought them for me. I wore them everywhere and at any time – in school, at the football field and for playing in the woods. I’d love to find a wearable pair of those in my size again. After those, there were a pair of adidas Torsion Response and a pair of Nike Pegasus 1993 which I wore to death. Probably that’s where my love for lat 80s / early 90s runners comes from.
Which sneaker do you think is overhyped?
Actually, I’d say a lot of sneakers get more attention than they deserve nowadays. People are coming for even mediocre collabos that wouldn’t get any attention if the would have been a general release. If you want me to name a single model, I’d say the Nike Yeezy and the Air Max 1. I mean, the Yeezy is not a bad shoe but I can’t understand how people get out of control when a new low-quality pic of an upcoming colorway ha been twittered. When it comes to the Air Max 1 I think it’s a great shoe in general but it has lost so much of it’s quality during the last years – however, it still sell like hot cakes.
