Sneakerness asked sneakerheads and influencers from around the globe three questions.
We talked to Lex Machmachi from the Sneakers Paradise Charity.
How did you get into sneakers?
I got into sneakers in the middle of 80s. Basketball and B-Boying was hype and popular. My first pair was a basketball shoe named Troop and the Puma Suede. Back then I wore sneakers to death (glue and tape were my best friends).
When did you know you were hooked?
My B-Boy crew in the late 80s was fresh and crazy. I’m sure that was the basis of getting me hooked on kicks. My parents (my big love) wouldn’t spend more than 20 Deutsche Mark (10EUR) on shoes for me. I cleaned cars and work hard for fresh kicks and clothes when I was young and loco…
Now that I’m 39 years old my bones cry sometimes. I have a lot of shoes, I love Nike Footscapes and many other brands with nice colourways who inspire me and make me happy.
But I’ve said, I don’t collect. I wear everything . I give it away either to charity or to friends that wear my size.
Which sneaker do you think should make a comeback?
I hope that one day Troop makes a comeback.
